Finally found a solution for this. I has to remove all portlets and re-intal
l them againg using the following commands:

xmlaccess ?in  C:\WebSphere\PortalServer\package\remove
allportlets.xml ?user 
wpsadmin ?pwd wpsadmin ?url localhost:9082/wps/portal

then:

WPSconfig.bat portlets ?DportalAdminPwd=wpsadmin

Its all green fields and happy days now!!!
