I'm using Genie  Backup Manager and for the first time I'm trying to backup 
some folders over my 2 computer LAN.
Although many of the folders/files were successfully backed up, there were a
lso many that received the "access denied"
designation and weren't backup up.  I don't see any pattern to this and woul
d like to know if anyone can help me figure
this out.

This is a limitation of the Volume Shadow Copy service (from Windows) as it
cannot back up open files over the network; backup programs usually rely on
this service thus the error you got.

Thanks for the explanation, it makes sense.  So it would be partially
useless to try to backup the OS (Win2000) over the network.  Are there any
backup programs that avoid this limitation?

Well you can use imaging programs (such as Acronis) as these should work
fine over the network.
