Anyone know if/how the SMTP service can be configured to transmit using SSL?

I have a configuration whereby I have an existing mail server, and in need
to 'insert' the SMTP service into the receiving sequence for LAN clients
only. (the server has 2 NICs) the existing server has regular SMTP and SSL
smtp and I can change which is on which port on either interface, but I
can't set different ports for the same service on 2 interfaces. So the
existing SMTP server will listen on port 25 on the WAN, and the SMTP service
will listen on port 25 on the LAN, but I can't set the existing SMTP server
to another port for the LAN interface, so it is only listening on SSL. I
can set the port in SMTP service, but it won't talk to the SSL SMTP server.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

This is simple
open the SMTP MMC
click your server SMTP node and select the 'Access Tab'.
Then you see 'certificate' tab. Select that button. Of course, you should
have registered a certificate for SMTP server or use www.thawte.com .
To create a self-made certificate (for intranet usage only!) you should have
a certificate server in your network.

Success

Ahh.. I just tried this, and it appears to work for receiving SMTP
connections only.. what I am trying to do is get it to SEND using SSL, for
example I want to use a smarthost, and I need the link from the SMTP service
TO the smarthost to be in SSL. Can I do this? Will it only work on a
particular port or something?

Thanks

well, if you take some time to look at which properties SMTP service
supports you'll see 'outbound security'.
Click that and check the 'TLS encryption' option...
