What are the criteria for anyone to decide on the exact IT Infrastructure re
quired for a business?

Say for example I have a small business that handles a bank's data and analy
ses it using various statistical models and other analytical applications th
en what kind of infrastructure should I look for? I am interested in hardwar
e. software, networking and all other details. Are there any websites where 
I can look for some good knowledge on these?
