Before installing a German BTS2004 on a German WinXP Home system,
I've checked the pre-requisites and met all except the following ones:

(i) Internet Information Services
(v) Visual Studio .NET 2003
(s1) SQL Server 2000 (I have MSDE 2000 installed)
(s2) SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services

It was clear that a full installation would not be possible but I ran
the installer nevertheless to see what gets installed. If I'd only be
able to read the product documentation that would be interesting
enough. On the screen where the available components are shown,
two items were shown with their check boxes greyed out:

(g1) Development, SDK
(g2) Information Worker Application/Portal

The installation completed but I'm still a bit uncertain as to what
the greyed out boxes meant. I suspect it means the component can't
be installed because something essential has been found to be missing.
For (g1) this is obviously Visual Studio .NET and for (g2) it's likely
because of the SharePoint Services (which can only be installed on
Windows 2003 Server).

Can somebody please explain the meaning of the greyed boxes?

Heinz Wehner
(Karlsruhe, Germany)

Your assumptions are correct. To develop for BizTalk Server, you need
Visual Studio, while the portal is hosted in WSS. If those prereqs are not
available, you cannot install those parts...
