Say I have the Western Digital 500GB NetCenter, with all my video/audio
etc on it, hooked up to my standard router. Say I have Apple TV hooked
up to my TV.

With this setup I'd still have to be running a PC somewhere for Apple
TV to be streaming music/video because iTunes would be on a PC even if
the library was on a NAS. Is any NAS operating system capable of having
and running iTunes? And would that mean that I could then stream video
from the NAS to Apple TV without having any computers switched on on my
home network?

No NAS devices with the FairPlay DRM system exist today, and I've heard
nothing about Apple licensing FiarPlay for this kind of application. The
question would be whether the Apple TV device will have native support
for iTunes playback (i.e. will not need a PC/Mac with iTunes as an
intermediary,) I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case.
