Check that the ISO-file has been downloaded correctly. Use m5-
checksum

You also should use Etch (Debian v4.0) and not Sarge (Debiam v3.1).
It soon will be the new stabel Debian.

If you have a good Internet connection, you could use a small
installation CD.

The CD has a selection that check that the media is OK, please check
that.
There could be some problems with DMA (symbolic links on file system
didn't worl) with
some old CDROMs. Ihade that problem long ago. Try to set no DMA for
IDE when you boot
cd. Might be fixed on new Debian/Etch.

If you read installation manual at debiab.org, you will get some
alternatives to boot
from CDROM. Like start the boot from floppys, Hard disk or other
media.

Try Debian/Etch, net boot cdrom (small, downloads fast) and read the
installation
documentation on CDROM and http://www.debian.org/ . Debian Wiki place
http://wiki.debian.org/ might also be a good place to look at)

Good luck with your installation.
