We have a CCM 4.1(3)sr4d cluster that we have no media
resource groups set, no MOH servers set, yet we have
MOH playing when users are put on hold throughout the
cluster! How do we configure the CCM cluster to only
play the three beeps instead?

by default any media that is not assigned to a group is assigned to all
devices.    Create a resource group/list put in the moh devices.

but I just re-read your message....  you can always deactivate the
services associated with moh.

When we disable the services associated with MOH, when
we make an external call with IP Communicator, and
place myself on hold.  It hangs up on the call.  So
it's not dead air, it's when you press HOLD on the IP
phone, it drops the call.

So disabling those services does not seem to fix our
MOH problems.

You're saying that if we place our media inside of a
media group with no audio assigned to it, we'll be
able to prevent the default MOH file from streaming to
phones?

hmm, sounds like something some place in ccm is messed up.   (yeah
duh..)

as for the mrl and mgl.   If the services are left out of a group,
then the work like the <none> of partitions and call search spaces.
They become available to everthing.   So simply creating a new group
and assiging the moh resources to it,   and not assigning that group
to anything  will prevent them from being available to the other
devices.

However this really does not answer your question, since you said no
moh servers are configured...?  CCM install should have initially set
them up. and one is usually enabled.    Have you verified that ccm
did not setup something that your unaware of?
also by default it setups that generic moh file to stream.


So... if the moh file is not set in the device pool, and there are no
moh servers running.   You will probably need to send a quick ccm
trace to see where the stream source is comming from.

Is this an h323 router?  Routers can also source music.

Dear Paul;
 
just go to the device pool in which the phones are placed and from User Hold
 MOH Audio Source choose none and you will get the tone on hold not music on
 hold function.
 
BTW ensure that this option is not selected on the phone, I mean ensure that
 it is set to none also on the phone.

I have just passed by this information and I donot know maybe it could help
 
Tone on Hold Timer 
This parameter specifies the number of seconds between every two hold tones 
that are played when a call is put on hold. For non-MGCP-based devices, if t
his value is 0, the held device will play the hold tone only one time when t
 e caller is put on hold; if the value is 200000, no hold tone plays; otherw
ise, the held device will play the hold tone every so many seconds (specifie
d by this value) repeatedly. If the specified value is less than 5 seconds, 
the device will raise it to 5 seconds. For MGCP-based devices, the hold tone
 is disabled if this value is 0 or 200000; any other value will enable the h
old tone on MGCP-based devices when the caller is put on hold.

I assume the easiest way to do this is to set the "Run Flag" in the
MOH Server page to "No". Disabling Media Streaming Services altogether
is no good idea, as it will also kill the Annunciator and MTP. The
latter is necessary for Hold/Forward with most H.323 gateways (even
though there are rumours you wouldn't need MTPs with cisco H.323 GWs,
I've found this to be only true with Unicast MOH, while Multicast MOH
participation of a cisco H.323 GW [like a 3745 on IOS 12.4] required
the MTP or else you get static silence when an outside call is held).
