The SMTPSvc deployed in IIS is supported by the Exchange team. Without
trying another 3rd party mail server, it wouldn't hurt to review some of the
tips related to the registry for increasing threads. This comes with a
healthy warning, you should try this type of stuff on a VM or test box.
If you try on your production box, I take no responsibility.
Once you have configured with optimal settings, you could deploy these on
your outbound server. That is the best advice I can offer. Also, you can
check out http://msexchange.org, this is an independent site dedicated to
email.
