That's right : when you set the "search Base" to the empty string, the "Sear
ch" button is not active. It should be, if the scope is Object and if the fi
lter is (ObjectClass=*).

How do you get the other error?

Last point : you must select an entry to be able to do a search. It would be
 better if we can launch a search from the menu even if no partition is sele
cted.
