I use my PC for business and I am now trying to secure the data as much as
possible. I use the Microsoft SyncToy to backup to an external USB drive.
I became aware of online backup services, where the data is uploaded and
saved off-site. Do you recommend such a service, do you have any
experiences with such a service? Thank you very much.

If you have your own FTP site you can try the backup software at
www.nssdd.com/backupintime.html.

It allows you to password protect the resulting compressed backup file
and then also encrypt it before putting on your FTP site.

I tried the Carbonite free trial (WinZip was touting it).

It seemed promising, but my broadband connection wasn't fast enough for the
70+
gigs that I need to back up.

If all I wanted to back up were spreadsheets, MS Word docs and so-forth it w
ould
be a no-brainer - especially if I were on the road.

Depends on how much data you need to backup, how often and how fast
your internet connection is. External USB works but you should always
take a copy offsite in case (God forbid) the whole place burns down.

You can also try Titanize (http://www.titanize.com). Great for backup
with other advanced features (remote access, sync, share, publish)
