Hi,

in another post, I have already mentioned this problem. I want to do
some audio streaming. The problem is that I want to play music *and* use
a microphone. Audio streaming for just playing music is no problem. This
is my configuration:

- Debian Lenny/Testing. A friend of mine has tried exactly the same
things I describe below on Etch. The same problems have occured.

- icecast2 as a streaming server on another Debian machine

- aumix and alsamixer as mixers

- qjackctl (GUI) and jackd as a server to connect the player to the
streaming server icecast2. This is necessary if you want to play both
music and speech through a microphone

- darksnow (GUI) and darkice as audio streamer

- xmms as mp3 player

- xmms-jack plugin as an interface between xmms and jackd

All components work fine except for xmms-jack. It makes xmms, qjackctl
and jackd crash on start. So, I tried another player.

I decided to try xmms2 which has the xmms2-plugin-jack. This plugin
doesn't crash but doesn't work at all. It seems as if streaming is
impossible with xmms2, too. So, I tried a third player.

My next choice was amarok. Unfortunately, amarok seems to be completely
unable to connect to jackd. I haven't found a way to do this. And yes, I
have asked Google. ;-)

Does anybody know how I can succeed with streaming with jackd? Which
player has a plugin for jack that really works?

TIA

Alex

Ah, yes, that's me. ;-)

No, jackd does not connect to icecast2. This connection is made by
darkice. jackd only connects to all audio sources, collects all audio
input and gives it to darkice for (re-)encoding and sending to icecast2.

yes. :-)

To be more detailed: xmms-jack seems to communicate with jackd, it
crashes only when you start to play a song. The xmms process remains in
RAM, causing a CPU usage of almost 100%, until it is killed.

On etch, jackd/qjackctl did not crash every time I tried, but most times.

Or who can repair the bug in xmms-jack 0.16-2? ;-)
