My manager has a 7940 and he's complaining about his loss of buttons that he
had on his previous phone.
So I mention this to a friend, and he says "you can make it so when he
presses that 2nd button, he gets a list of extensions to call, and he can
just arrow up and down thru them". How do I do that??? I guess the first
button is kind of reserved, it's your extension!!! But how do I do that
with the 2nd button? Maybe I could just have it that when he presses it, he
gets the names of the six department heads and their extensions. (the
buttons I am talking about are the 2 to the right of the LCD screen)

Thanks anyone.

The second button can be defined as a service URL. So if you create a servic
e that outputs XML and the appropriate softkeys, you can do this relatively
easily.

That being said, I wouldn't know where to start to build this service, just
that if it's there, it's easy to point to.

Or, if he wants real buttons, tell him about 7960s and 7914s (and their
costs). You might also point out that the higher up the management chain,
the fewer buttons one has. That said, I'd also love to know how to do what
Lelio suggested.

It's pretty straight-forward to do what Lelio suggested as a phone
service. I've got a boatload of 7941's deployed currently, maybe it's
worth my time to take an hour or two and cobble together a service like
this. If I've got some free time to get it done I'll put the source
code online somewhere.
