Well, since SCCP only supports passthrough, I don't see it causing any probl
ems if the commands are there. I guess the commands force it to skip over fi
guring out what to do dynamically, but if it can only do passthrough with SC
CP then there is a breakdow
n somewhere. Oh well, I am happy to get past another weird FAX problem with 
one number and not causing any other FAX problems.

Now, TAC was suggesting going to Fax Relay now with MGCP or H323 and moving 
away from passthrough. So there must have been improvements, as before recen
t IOS versions passthrough was way to go. The new IOS versions (recent 12.4T
) has a fax-relay command t
o make SG3 fax go to G3 fax also, but this is when doing Fax relay.

FYI,

We got the one number working.  We had to force the VG224 to do
fax and modem passthrough globally and by setting stcapp to enable passthrou
gh
on each port. We had to do this even though SCCP (Stcapp) only supports
passthrough.

Commands added to VG224 config,

voice service voip
fax protocol
pass-through g711ulaw
modem passthrough nse codec g711ulaw

and then this, for each voice port...

stcapp register capability 2/0
modem-passthrough

try to make sure that ECM
feature is disabled. this may cause fax failure

I have a strange FAX issue, where a FAX machine connected to
a VG224 can send/receive FAX to any number but is not able to send one
outside number a FAX. It can receive FAX's from them fine, just not send.
The FAX machines phone or a phone plugged into the FAX phone line can call
the # fine so there is not a CSS issue, etc.

The FAX machine is
plugged into a VG224 with IOS 12.4(11)T , the VG224 is configured as SCCP
(stcapp) and we have tried setting the port capabilty to modem passthrough
and not with no change.

The PSTN Gateway is a cisco 2821 with a PRI,
it is MGCP and running IOS 12.4(9)T and has FAX relay disabled.

We
have tried 7 different FAX machines of different models and neither are able
to call this particular outside FAX machine when going over IPT. When the
FAX machines are plugged into a traditional analog circuit there is not a
problem and the FAX works fine.

Any
ideas?
