That should work fine, so long as you tell the DVD recorder to take input
from EXT1 or EXT2 or something similar - exactly as you would if you were
recording from a set-top box.

dvdrip & gopchop should do the job.

... however, you'll need to install libxine-dev then recompile gopchop so
that you can see what you're cutting.
