Hello,

Is it me or have there been lack of updates this week and last week via
apt-get update and apt-get upgrades? This is for both testing (by
itself) and unstable setups.

Currently, testing shows (as of 7/23/2007 3 PM PDT):
Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
compiz-core compiz-plugins dcoprss gcc-4.2-base gimp gimp-data ifstat
kdenetwork kdenetwork-filesharing
kdenetwork-kfile-plugins kdict kdnssd kget knewsticker kopete kpf kppp
krdc krfb ksirc kwifimanager
libaudio-dev libaudio2 libc6 libc6-dev libdecoration0 libfreetype6
libfreetype6-dev libgcc1 libgimp2.0
libgsf-1-114 liblcms1 liblcms1-dev libpango1.0-0 libpango1.0-dev
librss1 libsasl2-2 libsasl2-modules
libstdc++6 linux-image-2.6-k7 module-init-tools multitail python-cairo
python-gobject python-pyogg
python2.4 python2.4-minimal xfs xnest xserver-xorg-core
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 50 not upgraded.

These packages were pretty much the same for almost a week or so. Thank
you in advance.

How is this a problem?

There may a lack of new upstream releases or known bugs. Or the
package maintainers may be busy. Or the packages you don't use may be
the ones that are being updated twice a day.

You certainly don't have a configuration problem, since I'm getting
the same results on a mixed testing/unstable/experimental box.
Personally, I'm enjoying the peace and quiet. :-)

OK good. I don't mind a break if there are no updates. I thought
something broke on my box!!

I am not doing that dist-upgrade yet because of the Kernel upgrade,
reboot requirement, and lack of disk space for 2.6.21 (will deal with it
later when I need this version and have free time to fix it):

Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda1 270969 228373 28140 90% /

The following packages will be REMOVED:
linux-kernel-headers modutils
The following NEW packages will be installed:
linux-image-2.6.21-2-k7 linux-libc-dev
The following packages will be upgraded:
compiz-core compiz-plugins dcoprss gcc-4.2-base gimp gimp-data ifstat
kdenetwork kdenetwork-filesharing
kdenetwork-kfile-plugins kdict kdnssd kget knewsticker kopete kpf kppp
krdc krfb ksirc kwifimanager
libaudio-dev libaudio2 libc6 libc6-dev libdecoration0 libfreetype6
libfreetype6-dev libgcc1 libgimp2.0
libgsf-1-114 liblcms1 liblcms1-dev libpango1.0-0 libpango1.0-dev
librss1 libsasl2-2 libsasl2-modules
libstdc++6 linux-image-2.6-k7 module-init-tools multitail python-cairo
python-gobject python-pyogg
python2.4 python2.4-minimal xfs xnest xserver-xorg-core
50 upgraded, 2 newly installed, 2 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 63.4MB of archives.
After unpacking 44.9MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? n

Plus, I don't think this is a good idea:
The following packages will be REMOVED:
linux-kernel-headers modutils

Don't I need those? As the other guy said, he noticed quietness too. I
thought my box was broken or something. ;)

I demand that Ant may or may not have written...

Not a problem.

linux-kernel-headers will be replaced with linux-libc-dev, and you'll alread
y
have module-init-tools, so no problem with modutils disappearing (and anyway
it isn't useful with 2.6-series kernels).

Cool! I always have a hard time to know if it is safe to remove or not.
I removed those two and others were installed:

The following extra packages will be installed:

It's you. I've lost track of how many megabytes Sid has wanted recently,
and it's 66 MB tonight. That's not counting the ones that want to remove
Gnome or most of KDE, which I have currently declined to do. And Pan is
broken. BIG upheavals in Sid.

If you are using ftp.debian.org as your apt source - this mirror is
currently broken (ran out of disc space afaik), and wasn't updated since
18/07/2007

You can find other mirrors at http://www.debian.org/mirror/list
