You are addressing the wiki word I cited, 'delete'.

Google's words on the subject are not exactly the same as the wiki
words.  The wiki 'overstates' the concept of 'deleting' -- whereas
google presents it as 'accessibility'.  Gmane is also explanatory about
the difference between deleting and making inaccessible.

I'm beginning to think that GG has completely eliminated the ability to
search GG for usenet posts by mid.

and X-Archive headers. -- Implementation -- Gmane implements expiry with
cancel messages. Once a day, the expiry log is processed, and any
articles that are found to have expired will be canceled. On the main
Gmane site, cancel messages result in the messages disappearing from
both the news and web interfaces, but the messages won't really be
deleted. They will, however, be totally and utterly gone from public
view.
