Has anyone had any experience with Genie Backup?
I am new to this group and would be interested in opinions as to what the
best back-up software is.

Acronis True Image, for complete drive/partition backup.

And Syncback (*freeware) for files and folders of your choice.

I have and do use the last three versions of GBM, now at version 8. In
my opinion GBM is one of the best backup programs available. Please do
not confuse backup software with imaging software (True Image et al)
as others seem to do.

Is the up-grade to version worth while. I have been using version 7 with FAM
but have had a hard time getting the program to behave properly. In addition
there is not very much information available on their web site. and their KB
leaves a lot to be desired.
Thanks

The upgrade certainly doesn't benefit me so in hindsight I would stay
with Version 7. I use GBM to run daily scheduled backup of my data
files, I guess if you were doing something more sophisticated then
version 8 may have some benefit.

I did have a problem with Version 8 as it failed to make the scheduled
backups after I installed and transferred the backup scripts. This
related to a problem with Windows Shadow Copy Service. After going
around in circles for a couple of days and eventually fixing the
problem I found GBM8 allows you to use an alternative to VSS. I don't
know whether GBM8 has been recoded to use VSS but I didn't have this
problem with either Version 6 or 7.

Acronis True Image does imaging as well as file backups, so you get
the choice. I image my OS partition and do file backups of the others.
