Sorry, I thought I had updated this earlier.

The meat of the patch consists of the updates to Constants, PersistenceManag
erFactory, and JDOHelper.  The rest of the patch includes a refactoring of t
he unit tests.  I guess I should have kept the two a little better separated
, but I didn't want to stop
once I found the time and got going.

Please advise when you have comments on the patch so that I can either make 
more updates or check in my changes!
