I currently have an internal website for employees. I did not want to
ask the users to login or somehow identify themselves when they have
already logged into the network. So I am using PHP2UCS.NLM along with
a script that Guenter Knauf created to get their userid. This works
beautifully! I am in the process of upgrading to OES/Netware 6.5 and
want to get my website current also. However, PHP2UCS.NLM is not
available for the newer builds. From the emails I have seen, someone
at Novell really doesn't care whether or not it ever becomes
available. So does anyone know of a method I could use to get the
userid of someone who is logged into the network and pass it to a
variable in a php script or a web browser?

It doesn't look like it, but I did drop him an email to get
clarification. I'll see what he says.

Marcel,
I checked with Guenter. We are still waiting for Novell to provide
the needed module. This issue has been going on for months. We are
told we will have it soon, but nothing ever happens. This is
ridiculous! As far as I can tell, nobody at Novell cares about this
issue.

Can you tell me exactly what Günther said?

Thanks Anders! if you want, I can even give you names of specific
programmers that are involved.

I asked him if he had found a solution for the PHP2UCS issue and he
told me no. I asked him if the php2ucs.nlm included with his current
PHP build would work with that build and he told me no. He also
included a quote from one of the programmers which claimed that
someone was addressing this issue.
What frustrates me is that "someone" has supposedly been addressing
this issue since at least January 2007 and we still do not have a
resolution. So until I see a useable php2ucs.nlm file, I'm not going
to believe anyone is actually doing anything or caring about this
issue. All we need is for someone to recompile php2ucs.nlm for the
current build or if Novell does not want to maintain this, then they
should just turn the code over to Guenter so he can maintain it.
Thank you for looking into this. I really do appreciate it. I am
trying to get my network upgraded to current Novell products and I
need this php2ucs.nlm file for my webserver.

Sorry to hear. Currently engineering is up it their ears in OES2, ie
all resources are put into that. My contact also had an official
statement from Novell:
"Novell has reviewed feedback from customers regarding the versions of
PHP, mysql and other Open Source components on the NetWare platform.
After a great deal of discussion, management has decided not to update
these components and instead encourage customers running applications
built around these components to move to either Open Enterprise Server
or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
This decision is consistent with the long term strategy of moving to a
single underlying platform for applications and Open Source (SUSE Linux
Enterprise) while providing the enhanced workgroup and networking
services (Open Enteprise Server) used by our customers. Novell believes
that this is the best long term solution for its customers. "
I realise that the answer is not going to make you happy though.

They said they would if they could, but they cannot for legal reasons.
Might be akin to the NCP code. It contains bits licensed from RSA and
thus cannot be given out. Just thought I'd let you know that it is not
just for spite
