Just went throiugh the same thing.  It turned out to be a
corrupt global.asa file.

You cen delete the file and then recreate the database
connections in tools, web settings, database.

Make sure you try one first and see if that is the problem.

Will try this next time.  For some reason it started working again.  I was
looking in web settings, database and noticed a number of databases had
question marks.  I selected verify and the databases now have green checks.
