All of the above makes sense.
You only make a "Secure Zone" if you are backing up to the same disk, but
even then, you don't have to do that.
You can make a backup image on your DVD drive directly, or place it in a
folder on your disk - it's just a file. Then you can copy it wherever you
wish including DVD. If your disk is NTFS, it will make one large file, if
it's FAT32 it will break it automatically into 4 GB pieces.
