As backup, an extra hard disk, internal or external, are far superior, and
much easier to work with. But there may be good reasons other than backup,
especially as most modern machines make you create your own restore disk. It
is also a fairly good way to distribute a largish amount of data, though
flash drives are now so cheap, that they are quickly displacing this.
Others here may offer suggestions. I'd buy a hard disk for backup.
