You should look at Microsofts Sync Toy which is a free download
Also look at 'Replicater' which is a simpler free tool.

There is a huge number of backup tools, just open any software
directory and search for data backup tools.
Acronis True Image (downloaded at http://acronis.com) is one of the
most highly-acclaimed products with a very good feature set. However,
I wouldn't recomment it: it is pretty expensive and has some troubles
with different storage media (I failed to make it burn to CD/DVDs
correctly). I don't like it, cause it's aggressive and invasive in
many respects.
Symantec Norton Ghost (downloaded at http://symantec.com) can be a
good personal backup solution, but be sure to use version 12, not any
of the earlier versions. What I liked about it that it allows remote
restoration of the computer. On the other hand it's definitely NOT
easy to use and terribly slows down the computer (if you've got less
than 512 RAM, it's not for you).
What about freeware products, most of them lack many essential
features (i.e. image-based backup) and none of them provide support
(why would anybody spend time to consult you if he's not payed?)
I personally use Handy Backup (downloaded at http://handybackup.net).
It's one of the most faultless utilities I've tried and has an amazing
user-friendly interface. However, it doesn't support differential
backups (only incremental), if this is important for you, you need
something else. Works for me perfectly.

IMHO Acronis is not an easy tool, it is expensive and DANGEROUS.
Unless you know what you are doing the software creates hidden
partitions for its own use that will DESTROY your system if you change
your mind for another product.
GHOST is the other non-freeware alternative. Expensive and not light
on your PC resources !
The best freeware i have found so far is written by a german guy and
it's pretty good: Cobian

The answer is to make a bootable Acronis CD - which is in any case more
reliable and secure in the event of HD failure - and ignore the 'secure
zone option'. Probably the most secure way to protect your data is to
boot from an external device, backup to an external device and restore
from an external device. For doing that Acronis is definitely the
simplest and most efficient package.

I've watched Symantec ruin perfectly good software by turning it into
bloatware. Partition magic is a good example of their bungling
interference with new acquisitions. Norton Utilities would be another.
