From what I have gathered:

1: in order to use the MSMQT adapter and have MSMQ running
on the same machine, one needs to have a "side-by-side" installation,
which involves assigning different ip addresses, etc.

2: If one does not have a "side-by-side" installation, the MSMQ
service must be stopped in order for the MSMQT adapter to
be activated. Once activated, the MSMQT adapter
causes the MSMQ service to fail on startup, because the
ports that MSMQ wants to use are being used by MSMQT
already.

3: Once you "activate" the MSMQT adapter, it can't be removed.

- The documentation for the MSMQC adapter very
casually states:

"Ensure Microsoft Message Queuing (also known as MSMQ) is installed."

(I assume this means that the MSMQ service will need to run)

- Since the MSMQT adapter can't be removed, and the MSMQC
adapter requires MSMQ, does it follow that if I do not have a
side-by-side installation and I have already activated the
MSMQT adapter... I can't use the MSMQC adapter?

Thanks!

You are correct on all points.

You are correct, and MSMQC and MSMQ were not intended to be run
simultaneously on the same box. You are supposed to choose the one that
fits your scenario best. MSMQC has a performance advantage and support for
MSMQ3.0 features and MSMQT is the only transport that preserves the order
of the messages and supports network load balancing for the transactional
queues. Depending on what you need, choose one and do not install the
other.

.."

Is it documented somewhere that the MSMQC adapter doesn't preserve the mess
age order?

Invert your statement... it is NOT documented that MSMQC actually preserves
message order. Since MSMQ does not preserve message order, why should
MSMQC?
