Using FrontPage, how can I set up a web site so that part of it is password
protected and only therefore accessible to people I want to access it
TIA

Lock it down with NTFS (the prob here is that the NT login dialog pops sup)
or:
1) Create a Subweb (susbsite) that is not reachable via Nav/Link bars,
2) Have users enter an account password and id. Check this against account
info in a DB (MySQL, MS SQL or Access). If all is well redirect them to the
subweb/site (or another url entirely).

I do this all the time for my corporate subscribers. May be a little work,
but the effort is well worth it.

Hope it helps.

You are correct Tom.

HOWEVER, this ONLY works if you have IE clients. We must assume that the
rest of the world may use a different browser, which is why I suggested the
avenue I did.

Bin there, tried that...

Actually I just tried the same steps as in KB 301554 (your link). I tried to
connect to the site with my Linux and OpenBSD using Mozilla - didn't work.

So being the anal type I tried with Opera and it still didn't work.

In both cases I got 'Access is denied' or 'Page is unviewable'.

But all is well with IE.

SO maybe I'm missing something???

Make sure that only "basic authentication" is checked for security in IIS .
