Extension problem, I guess? |
 |
 |
|

Hi experts,
I am trying to modify my company's website, but every time
I try to publish it, it pops a message and says the remote
server does not support ASP extensions even though the
current site is built on it. Is there some kind of setting
that I need to do to get FP2003 to support it or is it the
server? It actually replaced most the ASP pages with the
HTML pages. Does that mean that I will not be able to use
FP2003 for this website. The person who built the website
is using homesite and working straight from the code,
unfortunately i am not that much of an code expert so i
like to use split view on FP2003 to learn. Do i have to
purchase homesite or dreamweaver and get in to learning
code?
Also if I use frontpage to modify and save the page as ASP
I can just use regular FTP program to publish it back on,
am I on the right track here?
Please help!!
Any help is appreciated.
K.C.

Is the site on a Windows Host (ASP usually supported) or a Unix Host (no ASP
)?

Following is what they say about ASP
"ASP Support
Our servers are running IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000. We fully
support ASP. However, we are not ASP developers and cannot
help you program your site."
was I wrong about assuming that FP2003 would work?
thats also another thing they say
"ASP Upload
We support a component called ASP Upload for uploading
graphics and files through a web browser. It's a
copy/paste implementation. Very easy to use."
Ahy ideas?
thanks in advance.

No
They are confirming you are on a Windows server and ASP is supported
- FP 2003 is not the problem
Explain what you are doing to get errors
- do you know how to create code in ASP pages
- are you working in the online live site
- did you publish using http mode
Be specific

As for as ASP Upload is concerned, it is just a component that you would acc
ess via ASP to allow
users to upload files to your web site. See:

I am not creating pages using ASP codes i was just using
FP2003 to modify and post it back. The problem was that i
had to download the website using FP, i first created an
empty web then transferred all the files using ftp to my
local web. however because some of the codes have been
executed by the server when i post it back on the server
first it did not post the ASP pages and also did not show
the correct reference for the images that are referenced
back to the source images folder.
I don't think i am working on-line live site after
modifying i just say publish web then it compares root
directory and the server and show the unmatched ones and
changed ones and then publishes it.
right before the publishing finishes it gives me an error
message saying that the publishing the following ASP pages
have failed, and lists the whole web directory.
I think i published using the FTP because thats how i
opened the web. Any ideas, was a clear about your
questions?
thanks for helping

If the remote site has the FP extensions, you have to open it directly in FP
on the server and then
publish to your local machine, then make your changes and publish back to th
e remote server.
Otherwise FP can not accurately manage your hyperlink and any FP run-time co
mponents that may be
used within the web.
