Hallo,
we have an array based on 3ware escalade 7500-8 controller raid with
ata disks.
We would like to use iscsi technology so that servers see the array a
local hard drive. We know than on clients side we have to use iscsi
controllers which work as initiators. The question is what tape of
controller or software needs to be intstalled on an array so it could
work as target iscsi. (or any other solution...) All units are based
on linux system.

There is no requirement for special purpose hardware controllers for
either initiator or target ends. If your favourite OS supports iSCSI
then it should be capable of running it over any network hardware.

There are Linux iSCSI target implementations out there, e.g.;

Gentlemen,

sorry for been self-promoting but as our software is free for
non-commercial use I hope you'd forgive me  You may wish to check
StarWind iSCSI target from www.rocketdivision.com/wind.html if you
have plans to run iSCSI target on Windows box.
