I just got the product and am a novice -- but to get to Power
Quest Recovery Environment ("PQRE"), like Ghost, where you just
have a stack of disks and boot to a non-Windows environment to
recover your stuff, the manual tells you to "boot from the
product disk." This is all very well unless you want to keep one
back-up set at home, one safely off-site -- or don't want to
depend on a single $69 product disk for all your PQRE needs.
(Instructions for a bootable floppy are available for the Win9x
version, but not for XP that I could find)

God forbid Symantec should tell you to make a copy of the product
disk, but you can, and my Dell just booted from it into what
seems like a working PQRE. This isn't for piracy, or passing
around or placing on a second computer -- the copy is probably
coded against that anyway -- but to have fair-use "backup" (it
*is* a backup software package!). It seems unwise to depend on
any single disk for stuff this critical.

Did you get v7.04? Just make a copy of the ISO file and burn it on CD-R...

If it is still v7.01 then create a safety copy (that should be allowed by
law, shouldn't it?)

I'm still valiantly questing for 7.04; 'left a query about it two
days back at Symantec. 'Spose I will leave another, Googlate some
more, etc. I was surprised their UK site didn't have it. If I
spoke any Dutch I'd try your site.

I was glad to find that plain old Sonic copied the 7.01 "product
disk" (as opposed to having to mess with GameDrive or some other
more sophisticated imager). I was tempted to try the second DI7
disk for Win98, et al, for a second bootable PQRE, but that
didn't make sense. They really ought to volunteer that you can
make a safety. Again, its *backup* software-fercrissake.

I had to download the new Nero 6.3.1.15 in order to get a full
DVD+RW erase. My Nero 6.0.0.9 just wouldn't cut it. Now I have
the demo nagging me for money. I'm surprised at all the backup
and imaging Nero now claims to support, everything but a seperate
PQRE or PC DOS recovery environment. Maybe it's a little more
stable, too, who knows?

I will (valiantly) inform you of any result on Drive Image 7.04.

What's their godforbidden e-mail backlog???? E-mails here are answered
within 2 working days (24 hours) (I did a couple of e-mail queries and they
were replied the very same day with decent content)...
Don't try the Dutch Symantec subdomain...it is horrible ;-) The Dutch, as
being Dutch is an evil destiny, are referred to either the UK, German,
French or the Italian support pages...Cute, right?

The Drive Image 7.0x CD does *not* and I repeat, does *not* come with any
sophisticated copy protection scheme of any kind...

You can always *UPDATE*  f r e e l y  from 6.x.x.xx to the latest 6 version?
At least that's what I did! Did you download the *update* or the *demo*
version? Their respective filenames are the same but the programs themselves
are different!
