I'm getting the following errors from the IBM HTTP Server packaged with
WAS 5.1 as well as Apache 1.3.31 downloaded and installed independently:

[Thu Jun 24 12:36:36 2004] [notice] Instance name is Apache 2452
[Thu Jun 24 12:36:36 2004] [crit] (10045)The attempted operation is
not
supported for the type of object referenced: Parent: WSADuplicateSocket
failed for socket 636.
[Thu Jun 24 12:36:36 2004] [error] (2)No such file or directory:
master_main: create child process failed. Exiting.

The Apache FAQ describe this as a known problem with "shims" put in the
TCP/IP stack by Aventail Connect and maybe other VPN-like software.

I was not running Aventail Connect or any other VPN software.

I stopped all unnecessary services and killed most of the Windows
processes but still got the same error. This also occurred in "safe mode".

I saw that even if Aventail isn't running, if it had ever been run in
the past, the "shim" is still in place. Does anyone know how to get rid
of this other than uninstalling Aventail or reinstalling Windows?

There is a utility from Aventail to unload the "shim". Please contact your
Aventail support to get it. The "shim" gets reloaded everytime you start
Aventail.

I hate to ask a dumb question, but how does one contact Aventail
support? The support page at their web site requires a userid and
password to get in.
