Hello, I have an directory on my W2K/II6 webserver that I want to prompt
users for a valid local NT username/password before the page is displayed.
The webpage is an ASP page.

I thought I knew how to do this, but for some reason, it only works with an
Administrator account.

1) I removed all NTFS permissions from specified directory except for Admin
(Full control), SYSTEM (full control), and NT User (read only) that I'm
trying to give access.

2) Removed anonymous and set NT authentication

When I try to access the web page, I get the authentication dialogue. It
returns access denied when I try and login. Admin username works.

What am I missing? What permissions are needed exactly for ASP to run.

Hello,
What is the error you get when you try authenticating with a regular user
account? Go to IE-> Tools-> Internet Options-> Advanced-> uncheck the
option Show friendly http error messages and reopen the browser. What is
the Http error displayed in the browser.
For Integrated windows authentication to work, that user account needs the
following policy:
Access this computer from the network
To confirm if this user has the policy go to Administrative tools-> Local
security policy console, then choose Security Settings -> Local policies->
User rights assignment.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
Yogita Manghnani

Hi,

I had same problem. only difference i was working on Windows 2003/iis6. i
had web application which was configured for integrated authentication (NT
Authentication). In my case also admin users use to logon successfully.
other user use to get all kind of problems like 401.1, 401.2 errors

i Fixed this problem by changing TCP/IP Properties on Webserver (Windows
2003/iis6).

Goto TCP/IP properties
Goto Advance properties
Under WINS tab and Select "Enable NetBios Over TCP/IP"

It worked for me

All the Best
