We are trying to move the CS databases to another server. The IP
address has been transferred and the databases, accounts and passwords
have been moved, so everthing should be the same, right?. Once we turn
off the original server and turn on the new one, everything breaks.
The CS mananger is unable to connect to the MSCS_Admin database so I
cannot do anything. Since we reference the IP address in the
connection string, shouldn't this work? If we ping the new server from
the CS box, it CAN find it. But when I test the connection string
through the CS manager properties it CANNOT find the SQL Server. Do
you have any ideas or suggestions. Please help!!
Thanks a lot

Thank you for using Microsoft Newsgroups.

It sounds like name resolution issue. Make sure that the IP address is
resolved to the SQL netbios name correctly. Either using DNS or lmhosts
files. The site will not work properly until the connection strings "test
connection" is successful.

For additional information see kb article Q292257 How To Move the Commerce
Server Databases from One SQL Server to Another
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=292257.

If Windows 2003 then there might be some Kerberos issues, check the
application and system event logs as well after completing the previous
step.
