Thanks, Cristi; I appreciate your prompt response. My question wasn't in re
gard to a problem so much as a question from a client. Specifically: "Does
BizTalk allow multi-threading of transactions end to end (from Receive port
s/pipeline to orchestrations to send pipeline/ports)? If yes, where is it co
nfigured?" As far as I know, the process is potentially multi-threaded at e
very stage, so my answer would be 'yes', but I wanted to show the client whe
re it could be configured. From your answer, it looks like it can't be conf
igured anymore. (It's interesting that other Microsoft server products like
SQL Server and IIS permit configuration of number of threads, processor aff
inity, etc., while BizTalk seems to have moved away from that capability.)
I'll pass along your info on throttling. Is that feature documented anywher
e that we mere mortals outside of Microsoft might learn more about it? Docu
mentation (and courseware) for BTS 2004 is still fairly minimal, months afte
r its release.
Thanks again for your help,

Brian,
All this was replaced with Throttling by BizTalk 2004. Some internal
algorithms figure out whether a limitation in the number of processed
messages is required and it all depends on the available resources on that
particular box. You shouldn't need to configure anything.
What is the problem you encountered?
Hope this helps,
Cristi
