Thanks for the responses.
I tried simply reformatting Disk 2 and everything seems to be working
correctly now. I can boot into XP1 (first primary partition on Disk
1), save an image of XP1 to the second partition of Disk 2, and then
restore that image to the (targeted) first primary partition of Disk
2. So I now have XP1 on Disk 1, XP2 on Disk 2, and I can boot to
either one.
So, Drive Image 7 seems to be working successfully, although I haven't
yet tested it to restore XP1 to XP1 on Disk 1. I guess that will be
the acid test. *fingers crossed*
However, I realized just in time that my idea of using XP2 as a
"scratch" installation isn't as smart as I thought, because any image
from XP1 (C:\ on disk 1) that I restore to XP2 (F:\ on Disk 2) will be
full of registry items and other items that point to C:\! (Duh.)
So, I guess until I get this machine running they way I want it, I'll
be keeping parallel installations for a while -- in other words, XP2
will have its own clean installation (rather than creating from a
backup), and will have its own backup images.
Thanks again!
