    Remove old extensions

I recently installed Windows XP and Office Pro 2003 over Win98 SE and Office
2000 (with FrontPage 2002).

I noticed that the version of the FP extensions I had installed weren't
compatible with the new software. I tried un-installing them (using
add/remove programs), but I get an error message:

"The version of Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions setup cannot
install on to Microsoft Windows 2000 or later. For more information, visit
http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/fpse."

I click OK, then:

"Installation ended prematurely because of an error."

I click OK, then:

"Fatal Error during installation."

I click OK, then the procedure shuts down.

I went ahead and installed the new extensions (over the old, I thought), but
the old ones are still listed
in Add/Remove and still get the same error when I try to un-install.

Is there another way around this?

Thanks.

Stephen

Thomas!

I installed Windows XP Pro over Win 98SE. I believe it is fully updated
from the Windows Update page. Is there a place to find a specific version
number?

You would have been better off doing a clean install, instead of an upgrade,
 since it sound like
parts of the old Personal Web Server is still installed with the FP2000 exte
nsions which will not
work under Windows XP. You must install IIS from Add/Remove | Windows Compon
ent which will also
install the FP2000 extensions, however if PWS is installed, this will cause
a conflict.

Thomas!

For now, the extensions seem to be working fine on locahost. I'm just
worried about possible glitches in the future...

The only way to avoid glitches is to ensure that IIS and the extensions are
installed correctly. If
you can't use the FP Server Extensions Admin, then IIS/ Extensions are not i
nstalled correctly.

Apparently I can use the Server Extension Asmin app. I just tried it. So I
guess IIS and the extensions are OK.

Maybe the listing on the Add/Remove Software list is "phantom". Though if
it were, I wouldn't get the error message I got, I guess...

Thanks.
