This is a strange True Image problem, and I cannot find an answer in
their paperwork. Can someone please help me?
Mindful of the 'open files' problem, I use True Image's bootable CD-ROM
function. The system with which I have problems is a Win XP home
edition, and I am using Acronis version 6,0,0,350 (using the properties
panel to view the installed executable).
In the past few days I've been unable to boot using a CD-ROM, CD-RW,
floppy boot set, or even using the GUI interface, which then reboots the
system into the Caldera DR DOS interface.
The boot gets past the blue screen with icons, and then locks up when
the Acronis logo first appears. It doesn't get as far as the 'pseudo
cursor' that I've noticed in the past.
There have been a number of changes to my hardware. A recent power cut
resulted in the death of my CD-RW, so I bought and installed a DVD-RW. I
also have a DVD-ROM drive, which came with the system.
I've tinkered with the settings, making the DVD-ROM master & the RW
slave, and vice versa. I have also removed the DVD-RW, to see if that
would help. I've also tried booting with the router/firewall switched
off.
Also, it is possible that an obscure (to me) setting in the BIOS was
screwed up when the power cut occurred. For example, my system needs
APIC mode enabled. After the cut, when the system wouldn't boot at all,
I checked the BIOS and found APIC mode disabled. Additionally, I found
the modem had been disabled. Thus the power cut seems to have screwed up
some settings.
My other desktop machine runs Win ME (spit) and there are no boot
problems, even with the USB drive active, and my XP home edition
notebook is quite happy to run the Acronis boot disks that I've
mastered.
If anyone can help me to fix my problem I'd be most grateful.
