    Template Explorer Constraints

Hi All,

We've recently been working with Custom Properties and Templates within the
.NET 2003 environment. We've found quite an annoying thing whilst defining
property lists.

Basically, it seems that we are not allowed to enter values over 45
characters in length? This we find quite restrictive as the majority of the
values we need to enter exceed 45 characters.

Is there a way of increasing the number characters allowed in the template
explorer? If so how do we change it?

If there isn't a way of increasing the limit then is there a way of
requesting a functional enhancement request (if such a thing exists)?

Thanks in advance,

Darren. :-)

Hi Darren,

the name of a custom property cannot be longer than 45 characters. The value
can be much longer.
Do you mean you need custom property names with more than 45 characters?
This is not possible. This limit is hard coded and it is not possible to
increase it.

But usually the name is much shorter and only the value assigned to the
property needs to have more characters.
Can you please explain why it is necessary in your scenario to have custom
property names with more than 45 characters?

Thanks,
Stefan.

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for your response. The problem is not with the name of the custom
property as our names are quite short. The problem is with the "Allowed
Values" collection.

It seems that this 45 character limit also applies to the "Allowed Values"
collection. Whenever, I try to exceed 45 characters I receive the following
error message:

Invalid property value
Allowed value cannot exceed 45 characters.

Surely, the limit on the allowed values collection can be increased?

Thanks in advance,

Darren.

Hi Darren,

you are right, there is the same limitation.
Sorry this is hard coded and cannot be increased.

Cheers,
Stefan.

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for your response.

This seems particularly weak. Is there no official route I can go through to
get thing changed? Also do you know if there are any planned enhancements to
do with this on the horizon?

Thanks in advance,

Darren.

Hi Darren,

if your company has a premier support contract then you could open a support
case and request a critical design change request.
But you would have to provide a strong business impact why this is required.

Cheers,
Stefan
