how to trace thru a proxy? I'd sure like to know how that one is done

With a court order or a gun, maybe.
And even then, you'd still need to hope the proxy owner saves access logs
which, by virtue of the intent of an anonymous proxy, is unlikely.

I don't have any experience in that area. I can simply type nmap and see
what is open just like everyone else around here loves to do.

That explains why a certain organization wanting laws passed and having
accountability over the internet. I heard this on a talk radio show
earlier this year.

The reason I ask is that some people manage to steal an entire header
and forge in someone elses name. Someday, somebody is going to make
that program to do a traceback.

All the laws in the western hemisphere won't stop someone hosting (or
0wNing) an anonymous proxy in North Korea, or China, or Pakistan, or ...

I think the law they want passed would force a major change in how the
internet works and to get rid of these problems from other countries.
Spam was one of their other favorite topics and it still seems to be a
controversy for the time being.
