    Acronis Incremental Backup Questions

I got Acronis TI last month and installed it on my laptop (I
downloaded the latest upgrade patch as well, so I'm running the latest
build - I think its 613). I ran a full backup of my C: drive (Windows
XP Home Edition) at that moment, and restricting the TIB file size to
700MB to fit on a CDR. The backup created 16 separate files and named
it in incremental order (Backup01.tib to Backup16.tib)

After a couple of weeks I ran an incremental backup (Which I based on
file Backup01.tib). This process took the same amount of time and
created additional 17 files in incremental order of the same size
(Backup17.tib to Backup33.tib).

I have a few questions/concerns regarding this:

Why should incremental backup create the same number of files of the
same size as a full backup and take the same amount of time?

Since with every incremental backup I get 17 odd files of 700MB each,
should I save all the incremental files if I need to restore the
system at a later date? or should I just save the initial Full Backup
and the Latest incremental backup fileset? (to save all the
incremental files would be diskspace prohibitive and doesnt make
sense, also I'd rather run a Full Backup instead of an incremental
backup every couple of weeks)

I'd appreciate any feedback/assistance in this matter.

Rgds...

don't mean to be rude, but why do you ask a bunch of strangers on Usenet
rather than Acronis technical support? Have they been not responsive?

Because he can. Why do you care?

There are other image products like V2i protector that use a special device
driver to keep track of changes across boots. Their incremental backups are
very fast becuase they know exactly what needs to be backedup.

Acronis, like others, I suspect, have to do a compare at backup time to see
what has changed from the last backup.
