Hi Bill,
First of all thank you for downloading and trying the program. I know that
you said that you've just downloaded a copy of Backup4all but I want to be
sure that you have the latest build (which is build 704) so first check what
build do you have (Help->About Backup4all).
That error message you received is indeed displayed when the DVD device is
not compatible with the built in burner but you can always use third party
packet writing software like InCD or DirectCD to place your backup files on
a DVD. The process is not so difficult, there are 3 simple steps:
1.. Open "New Backup Wizard" or "Backup Item Properties" and go to the
"Destination" page.
2.. Select the drive letter for the CD/DVD burner device you want to use.
3.. Advanced settings are available by clicking on the "Advanced" button.
This will open the "CD/DVD Advanced Settings" window where you must select
"Use UDF file system". Here you can also set the "Erase disk before writing"
option. Press the OK button.
4.. If packet writing is set, you will see the following message on the
"Destination" page
"[Device name] Writing method is UDF."
More information you can find at:
http://www.backup4all.com/use_packet_writing.php and you can always send us
an email through the "Support Request" feature of Backup4all that you can
find in the Help area.
Our CD/DVD device database is updated regularly so if the specified burner
is indeed not supported we will include it in the next update.
Again, thank you very much for trying our application.
