Hello,

We have an old MSIB 1.0 based system (yes, very early deployment just after
the CMS acquisition) and we're not sure of the potential role of CMS with
respect to Commerce Server. This implementation only uses CMS to very small
degree, to manage a handful of static pages. Question, what can CMS offer in
terms of Commerce Server functionality? For example, can CMS handle user
personalization? Can CMS provide expanded product catalog management? Does
anyone have examples of what CMS can do? We're thinking of upgrading to MSIB
2.5, and would like to better understand what we should be doing with CMS.

Thanks!

Thank you for using Microsoft Newsgroups.

Both products can be used independent of each other. The integration
doesn't exist until you use MSIB solution site. You can also create the
integration but the steps are quite involved and more than likely you will
need a consulting firm or an experienced CMS/CS resource.

CMS by itself gives you the functionaliteis needed to manage web content
and workflow for creating web site content. Go to
http://www.microsoft.com/cmserver/d...erver/techinfo/ to
get more in-depth information in the functionalities.

Commerce Server provides the framework to go from a physical store to an
online store. The functionalities such as profiling, content targeting can
be used in on transaction based sites. Catalog management and order
processing can be used in transaction sites that require placing orders for
product. It also has the data warehouse capabilities that allow you to
analyze web site usage for commerce and non-commerce sites. CS

MSIB bring CMS and Commerce together. It allows you to create rich content
for your Commerce Catalog, Content Personalization plus the CMS and CS
functionalities. MSIB

That is CMS, CS and MSIB in a very tiny nutshell.
