It seems that I should be able to login to my Web site that is located in a
virtual directory in localhost. Web sites in virtual directories don't even
appear among Web sites in the Open Site dialog box under wwwroot, but they d
o
appear in Internet Services Manager. I do not have a problem with Web site
s
that are physically located within localhost. Am I missing something here?
I have FrontPage 2003, IIS 5.x, FPSE 2002, .NET Framework 1.1, Windows 2000
Pro, etc.

Also, can anybody tell me how to enter a website that is on localhost into
My Network Places. They eventually seem to wind up there but I haven't been
able to PUT them in there.

Thanks,
--
Ken

FP extensions do not support access to virtual directories, only virtual web
 sites.

Thanks for the reply Thomas. I thought I should be able to convert a virtua
l
directory into a virtual Web site, but I haven't found out how. I created a
virtual directory that points to a Web site, but that doesn't sound like wha
t
you are talking about. Is that correct? Where do I find the command in
Internet Service Manager to create or convert to a virtual Web site?

Thanks,
Ken

Ken,

You may be running into a limitation of using IIS under Windows 2000/XP Pro,
 I am not sure.

But under Windows 2000 or 2003 server, you would create a folder somewhere o
n your HD, then under
IIS MMC, select LocalHost, then right click and select New | Web site, then
somewhere in the New Web
Wizard, you would indicate the Home directory as the folder you just created
.

Thank you again, Thomas,

I think my system is different. First, there is nothing on the localhost
shortcut menu that would create a new Web site, but if I right click on
Default Web Site I do get a menu that allows me the choice of a New l
Virtual Directory or Server Extensions 2002 Web. Clicking on Server
Extensions 2002 Web gives me the administration page, Create a Subweb. It
creates a new subweb under localhost although in the IIS MMC tree it appears
under Default Web Site. That seems to be a subweb that is physically there
in that tree. Still trying to create a virtual web site, I right click on m
y
new subweb and choose Virtual Directory. That creates a virtual directory
under the subweb I just had created and I pointed it to a folder that
contains a Web site somewhere else on my HD.

That is as near to creating a virtual web site as I know how to get. There
is no New Web Wizard, and, thus, no way to indicate the that the folder
somewhere on my HD is the Home directory. Do you have any other thoughts on
this?

Thanks,
Ken

Ok, then you are limited under Windows 2000/XP Pro IIS to only creating subw
ebs under Localhost with
FP extensions by selecting Server Extensions 2002 web.

You would have be running Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 server to create virt
ual webs that live
elsewhere on your HD.
