What would be the best, affordable software for backing up to a DAT drive.
I would also like a bare-metal restore option. Dantz Retrospect is too expe
nsive. The software is okay at $129, but the disaster recovery add-on is an
other $225.

Any ideas would be deeply appreciated/

WF

Novabackup - been trying it myself for 3 weeks, not had any problems yet.

Why do you need the disaster recovery add-on?

Dantz Retrospect Pro edition already includes disaster recovery.

Howard,

When I read the info on their web site, I did not take away the impression
that it would do a bare metal restore, i.e. a complete restore of all
software without FIRST installing the OS and them the backup software. Are
you saying that the Dantz Backup software that sells for about $125 will do
a bare metal restore?

Yes.

Retrospect allows you to create a disaster recovery CD that installs a
temporary OS.

Retrospect can be purchased for about $80. See www.pricegrabber.com.

Thank you, knid sir. You are exactly right. I called Dantz, verified same
and purchased the program today. A backup set is just beginning. Seems
slooooow to get started.

Many thanks for your help!

Retrospect has a LOT of overhead in the way it works.
