IIS Default SMTP Vir. Srv. Not starting

I have a Win2k Server machine that is used as a web
server. It does not allow me to send email because the
Default SMTP Vir. Srv. service will not start. When I
attempt to start it, it will say:

The service did not respond to the start or control
request in a timely fashion.

nothing else using port 25 and simple main transport is
started under services.

Thanks for in advance,
Quan

I have the same problem only started AFAIK last week.
There are no entries in system log at all concerning SMTP
I tried uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling, same error
I have noticed that the mailroot folder which used to be under inetpub has
moved to being under wwwroot .
I downloaded metaedit but I do not know how the settings should be setup

Regards
Wayne
