Hi all,
I upgraded my web server from 2000 to 2003 and the search function on my web
page stopped working, and now I get this error:

"Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page".

I've been told that "Win 2003 Server does not support the basic FrontPage
WAIS search engine.  It must use index server.".

OK, so how do I take care of this? I checked the server extensions on the
site, no problems found. I also checked that the index service is started an
d
working and that the FPSE are allowed on the web service extensions. What am
I missing?

Have you created a catalog for your site using the indexing manager?  And th
en
you need to make a change on the search form page and republish it.

OK, what change would that be? Here's the line for my search button:

If the Fontpage search function isn't doing what you want youmight want to
consider using a 3rd party search product.

Like the Zoom Search Engine,

The really poor support for searching in Frontpage was what prompted the
development of Zoom in the first place.

Actually, you just have to get it marked dirty.  So, on any of the property
fields, you can add a character and then delete it.  The page gets marked di

I changed a few characters on the form page properties and now this is the
message I get:

"FrontPage Run-Time Component Page
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web
server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish
this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.

OK.  You have said that Index Service is started and working.  However, you 
have
not said that Indexing Services are allowed in the web service extensions.  
Make
sure it is.

Your latest error clearly indicates that it thinks that the FPSE are not
installed or are not configured to run on your Virtual Web Server.  In the I
IS
System Manager console, expand the sites folder, right click your site, and 
the
choose All Tasks, and the configure server extensions.

option on my server to configure web extensions, just "check extensions" and
when I run this it tells me "no problem found".  I'm beginning to think abou

If it check server extensions, rather than configure, then it means that you

Virtual Web Server has been configured to use the server extensions.

Did you use a migration tool to set up your site?  Others have found that th
ey
could not get their site to index properly after migrating their site.  My s
ites
appeared to be there after I migrated them, but there was no listener, and I
couldn't even start them.  After I added the listeners, then I couldn't publ
ish
to them because they were not in the metadata properly.  You may have to
reinstall the server, fpse, and republish from a file-based web.
