We were told the following about licensing:
Most of WebSphere Edge Server (which previously was sold as a separate
product, licensed by Server, not processor) is now in WAS ND v5 and is known
as "Edge Components". It can be found on the WAS ND DMZ CD. It is a subset
of the features contained in Edge Server 2.0. The key basic features that
99% of our customers used in Edge and are included in Edge Components are:
a.. Load Balancer (IP Sprayer)
b.. Caching Proxy (to cache pages to avoid traffic back to the appl
server)
The licensing considerations of Edge Components are:
a.. Complementary Usage
a.. If the customer wants to deploy the Edge Components separately
from WAS (and still use WAS) the customer must purchase 4 WAS ND licenses to
deploy 1 Edge Component on another server
b.. Standalone usage
a.. If the customer wants to deploy the Edge Components separate from
WAS and not deploy WAS (i.e.they use a competitors Appl Server), the
customer can purchase 1 WAS Network Deployment license for this purpose (and
only use the Edge Components).
c.. Co-resident Usage
a.. If the customer wants to deploy the Edge Components on the same
machine as WAS, they can do so with 1 license (but this is not a very useful
option given what Edge does)
