OK, so I have this lovely form all made up using FrontPage's form wizard.
It didn't work, presumably because I didn't have the Server Extensions
running on my website.

So now I've installed the extensions. I did the "Extend" thing. The form
still doesn't work. Am I supposed to do something with creating users or
something?

I've checked that the results page exists in _private, and it has write
permissions set correctly.

Yes, I know I'm an idiot.

What exactly did you do when you did the "Extend" thing?

There were two webs showing - one was the default web, which had a blue
"Administration" link on the right side, and the other was my actual
website. On the right side of my website was the word, "Extend", a
hyperlink in blue; I clicked on it and got a graphic of some gears turning.
Now my website appears as a web link, I can click on it, and it takes me to
"Site Administration for" my website page, with "Users and Roles",
"Configure Usage Analysis Settings", and stuff like that.

I'm thinking (probably naively) that since I did the Extend thing, my
website now has FrontPage extensions installed on it, but my forms still
don't work, so I'm thinking I either 1)did something wrong, 2)didn't do
something I should have, or 3)am totally clueless and should seek a career
in professional truck driving, like the late-night commercials recommend.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've looked at the error page that
says:
FrontPage Error.
User: please report details to this site's webmaster.

Webmaster: please see the server's application event log for more details.

a couple hundred times (yes, I keep clicking on the Submit button on my form
in the hopes that it will miraculously work one of these times).

I can't tell for sure, but, it appears that, when you did the "extend thing"
you were in the WSS Central Administration site, and you applied the Windows
SharePoint Services extensions to your site. It has now been converted to a
WSS site, and none of the FPSE components will work in it.

You should have started in the IIS Manager, expanded the IIS server icon,
then expanded the web site folder, then selected your site in the list.
Then right clicked it, chosen All Tasks, and then "Configure Server
Extensions 2002". You would have been taken to a page that said FP Server
Extensions Administrator, or something like that.

Go back to that WSS Central Administration Page, where you did the "extend
thing". If version column shows your site with 5.0.2.5012 and upgrade in
the next column, then it is configured with FPSE. If the version column
says 6.0.2.5530, and nothing in the last column, then it has been extended
with WSS.

You do have a disk-based copy of this site, don't you? If not, I can only
offer you my sincerest condolences. Don't forget about www.monster.com,
though I don't imagine they handle professional truck driving.

I don't know what the WSS Central Administration site is, the page I
extended on was titled "FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 Server
Administration" so I think it's all right - the version column does say
5.0.2.5012, but instead of saying "upgrade" in the next column, it says
"Administration".

So, I'm back to where I started I guess - I think I have FPSE installed but
my forms won't work. I don't know why - what am I supposed to do other than
just install the bloody thing?

Thanks!

Hi Michael,

After extending the site, you need to configure the SMTP settings so that
FrontPage server extensions use that SMTP server to send emails.

The following link explains about configuring the SMTP settings for a
server extensions enabled web site

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/.../proddocs/en-us
/admindoc/owsf01.mspx

Hope this helps
