I've asked this before but since I got no response I'll try again. I
know Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 3 is not an an officially supported
OS but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Has anyone tried this? Any info
would be nice before I waste my time trying.

It is not supported because the underlying WebSphere Application Server
(5.0.x) doesn't support Red Hat Linux 3.
WAS 5.1.x supports it, so when the next release of Portal based on it is
released, it will be supported too.

You will find some info about the problems and prerequisites for running
WAS 5.1 on RH 3 here:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 3.1 is officially supported with WPS 5.0.2.2:

This is interesting. Its only Supported on RH AS3 if you use WAS51 +
WBIS51. It looks like the only way WAS 5.1 is supported is with WBISF. I
dont see why I should have to buy new software just keep my portal up to
date.
