Nero 6 keeps eating DVDs!

    Nero 6 keeps eating DVDs!

Cannot get any help on this from techsupport@nero.com.

Whenever I do a backup, Nero keeps asking for more DVDs, but it only writes
some empty folders and then asks for another DVD. This never ends.

For example, if I have 3.6 GB to backup, and a 4.7 GB DVD, it runs fine,
verifies the DVD and then asks for another DVD. I insert one, it writes for
40 seconds, then asks for another DVD. After doing this a few times, I press
"Cancel" and get the message "Backup failed"
All the DVDs after the first one have only empty directories and a readme.
I have wasted a lot of  DVDs on this already.
Please help.

Most of Nero's programs are good; but backup is a dog.

Try Backup4all.  I've tested about a dozen backup programs for documents
and it is absolutely the best.  Here is my check list:

Features I consider absolutely mandatory for a good document backup
utility are:

* Writes CDs, and even better DVDs
* Non-proprietary file format ["mirror" and standard zip files]
* Job [backup] profiles
* Filters [select what to include/exclude by file extension, etc]
* Scheduler
* Automatic verification
* Fast
* Full, incremental and differential modes
* Clean interface so you can be certain what be included, excluded
and the actions that will be taken.

Backup4all is the only product I know of that meets all of the items on
my mandatory list.

What's your DVD writer's brand and model number?
Maybe a firmware update from the manufacturer's web site may approve on the
described issue?

I had the same problem with Nero backup with two different burners.  Bug
seemed to occur with large backups.

My own experience with Nero6 as a backup utility was _very_ flaky, as
was its handling of DVDs generally.  Erasing DVD+RWs seemed beyond it.
Sonic's little "Record Now" (pre-installed on a new Dell) just whizzed
through stuff Nero6.3 either balked or ruined. I currently use Drive
Image 7 to write DVD-sized chunks and Sonic to pass the chunks onto
DVDs. I've successfully done sample file restores, but not an entire
drive.

I've had great success with Nero 5 and now Nero 6.3 (I have Pioneer
A05 dvd burner and tdk cdr burner).

I have always used Fuji film CDs and dvds without any problems (XP pro
with SP2).  I have some Pioneer dvd rw's and never had problem with
quick erase.  I did have one problem some time ago trying to have
Drive Image write to a quick erased dvdrw.  I found out I had to do
full erase for that software to work.

Other than that quirk (which wasn't Nero's fault), I would have to say
Nero is a 2 thumbs up for me! with both cdr's, dvd-r's, and dvd-rw's.

If you're using dvdrw's, try full erase first.  Also verify that you
have latest firmware for your dvd drive.  Also, quality dvd's are not
expensive anymore.
