Hello, I want to be able to access a Serial Port on my Linux machine
from my Win XP (as the XP has no Serial Ports.)

Is there anyway to tunnel a Serial Port over a network (like TCP/IP) ?
In other words have virtual Serial over LAN?

Thanks very much for any help.

Unless I misunderstand your question, why not use ssh to login to the
Unix box, then just run tip or minicom to access the serial port?

There was an old box made by Livingston, called a PortMaster, which
basically was just a 10-30 port network-to-async serial port controller.
Not sure if they are still around, but the protocol should be easy
enough to implement (SMAP). Cyclades also makes a linux-based box that
does pretty much the same thing, although with cooler 1U boxes and RJ45
serial ports.

Sorry, got off-topic there. Just to say that if you really need that
protocol, I'm sure it exists somewhere, maybe even in a freeware release
on sourceforge or elsewhere? Anybody wanna chime in on this?
